6th formers Freddie and Scarlett represented Sweyne Park last Sunday at the Rayleigh service of remembrance for those that fell in service of their country.
Freddie and Scarlett met the Kings representative Deputy Lieutenant for Essex, Dave Monk before the event and laid a wreath at the war memorial on behalf of Sweyne Park.
On Tuesday, Miss Wood took 24 GCSE pupils and A Level music students (including three Year 9’s that are part of SPS band) to City, University of London. The pupils and students had a 2-hour Gamelan workshop, which involved them playing a variety of traditional Balinese percussion instruments under the direction of Gamelan expert Andy Channing.
They learnt a piece called ‘Baris Tunggal’, a male warrior dance, and by the end of the session, presented a complete performance of the piece. The trip was a fantastic experience for the pupils and students, serving to enhance their musicianship skills, as well as providing them with a new understanding of music from a rhythmic and cyclical perspective!
On Monday 13th November, the Year 7 Netball Team won their match against Castle View School. The whole team played exceptionally well, with some amazing shooting skills demonstrated by Lexie and Brooke. The defenders did a great job, intercepting some excellent shots at goal, and the centre court players made some fantastic passes down the court. Lexie HG was the player of the match, a well-deserved award for her skilled shooting and overall play.
The team had a great game, scoring 20 goals!! It seems they are on a bit of a winning streak with 2 wins from 2 games. Keep up the good work girls!
